Legion Post 510 seeks candidates for sponsorship program

Lake Bluff’s American Legion Post 510 is seeking candidates from the village for the 2016 Illinois Boys State and Illinois Girls State programs. Post 510 will sponsor 10 delegates to participate in the programs, to be held at Eastern Illinois University, in Charleston, from June 11-17 (Boys State Program) and from June 19-25 (Girls State Program). To qualify, sponsorship candidates must be residents of Lake Bluff attending their junior year of high school; must be in the top half of their class; and must be recommended by their high school counselor. Candidates will be expected to present a 100-word essay on one of the following topics: Why they wish to participate in the program, or What is their definition of Americanism. Sponsored delegates who attend the program will gain experience in national, state and local government; meet with civic leaders; attend motivational meetings; participate in leadership and team-building programs; and learn to interact with new friends and associates. Waukegan

School Dist. 60 to get facility upgrades via bond program

Waukegan Community Unit School District 60 announced that many of its buildings will receive facility improvements, thanks to a $7 million Qualified School Construction Bond Program, approved by the Illinois State Board of Education. District 60 is among 29 school districts in the state approved for the program. As an authorized district, Waukegan’s public schools can take advantage of low-interest bonds to pay for needed projects, repairs and renovations. A total of 19 District 60 projects have been identified, and are scheduled to commence during the summer months of 2016, ’17 or ’18. Schools on the list are Waukegan High School-Brookside Campus, Waukegan High School-Washington Campus, Lyon Magnet School, Robert Abbott and Jack Benny middle schools, and Clearview, Glen Flora, Greenwood, Oakdale, Washington and Whittier elementary schools. Park District to hold annual St. Pat’s golf tourney

The Zion Park District will present the 40th Annual St. Patrick’s Golf Tournament on March 11, 12 and 13 at Shiloh Park Golf Course, located at the corner of 23rd Street and Bethesda Boulevard. The 9-hole tournament, featuring Peoria handicap scoring, will be divided into men’s and women’s divisions, and up to $1,000 in prizes will be available. The fee of $15.16 includes golf, golf balls, coffee and rolls for all participants. The clubhouse will open at 7:30 p.m. each day of the tourney. Inclement weather dates are March 18, 19 and 20. Mundelein

Sysmex Corp. to expand manufacturing plant

The village reported that Sysmex Corporation, a Japan-based manufacturer in the medical products industry, recently invested nearly $7 million toward an expansion at its Mundelein manufacturing facility, located at 2 Sysmex Way. In 2007, Sysmex constructed a 50,000-square-foot manufacturing plant adjacent to its Mundelein office, which was established in 2003. Currently, Sysmex is in the process of expanding the manufacturing facility by 40,000 square feet with an addition on the south and west sides of the building. The expansion is intended to accommodate increased production capacity and workforce size. The corporation’s U.S. subsidiary, Sysmex America, Inc., is headquartered in Lincolnshire. Vernon Hills

Road rehab program set to begin in April

The village reported that its 2016 Road Rehabilitation Program will be undertaken in the New Century Town Manor Homes subdivision and in sections of Woodbine Circle that are within village limits. Streets to be resurfaced are Brook Lane, Streamwood Lane, Bluewater Lane, Southwick Circle, Hemmingway Court, Clairmont Court, Coventry Circle, Wentworth Court, Sutton Court, Cromwell Court, Regency Court and Regency Drive. The project is tentatively scheduled to begin in late April and be substantially completed by July. During construction, updates will be published on the village’s website at www.vernonhills.org. Jobapalooza Expo on tap for young adult job seekers

Young adult job seekers (ages 16-21) are invited to attend the 2016 Jobapalooza Expo, to be held from 6-8 p.m. March 3 at the College of Lake County Physical Education Center (Building 7), located on the CLC Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. Washington St. The free event — co-sponsored by the CLC Career and Job Placement Center, and the Job Center of Lake County — will feature more than 80 organizations, including employers, and resource and training providers. Attendees will receive information about the education and training required for different jobs, plus information on work permits, Social Security cards, personal finances and more. Job seekers are encouraged to bring copies of their resume, and should dress appropriately.
