Huntley

Village to host Green & Clean Huntley Day

The village announced that it will host Green & Clean Huntley Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 23. The event is for Huntley residents only, and IDs will be checked. Participants can bring unwanted electronics for recycling to the Municipal Complex parking lot, 10987 E. Main St. Only the following items will be accepted: cable receivers, computers (desktops, laptops, notebooks and tablets), digital converter boxes, digital videodisc players and recorders, electronic keyboards and mice, fax machines, monitors, portable digital music players, printers, satellite receivers, scanners, small-scale servers, televisions, VCRs and video game consoles. Any other electronics will not be accepted. In addition, paper and documents for shredding will be accepted at the same location, and participants will receive a certificate of destruction for materials taken to be destroyed. Residents also can drop off unwanted household items at dumpsters, located at the Public Works Facility, 11000 Bakley St. Yard waste, hazardous waste, liquids, batteries, motor oil, tires, large appliances and medical waste will not be accepted. As part of the event, tours of the West Wastewater Treatment Plant, located on Kreutzer Road at West Main Street, also will be offered — at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and noon. Sprint to Summer event to benefit Dist. 12 students

The Johnsburg Educational Partnership Foundation will hold its 2nd Annual Sprint to Summer 5K Run/Walk & Kids Challenge on April 23. The 5K event, beginning at 9 a.m., will run through the neighborhoods surrounding Hiller Park, located at 5500 Skyhawk Lane. The Kids Challenge, consisting of an obstacle course (for all ages), will take place throughout the grassy area of Hiller Park, starting at 10:30 a.m.. In addition, a family friendly breakfast will be served between events, at approximately 10 a.m. Costs are $35 (5K Run/Walk), $15 (Kids Challenge), $10 (adult breakfast) and $5 (kids breakfast). All proceeds will be used to help enhance educational opportunities for School District 12 students. Registration ends at 11:59 p.m. April 21. City set to join newly expanded 911 dispatch center

A report stated that an intergovernmental agreement has been approved in order for the city to join the newly expanded McHenry County Northeastern Regional Communications Center (NERCOMM). The 911 dispatch center currently serves the McHenry, Johnsburg and McCullom Lake police departments, the McHenry Township Fire Protection District, and the Marengo and Union fire departments. Chamber to host McHenry Scramble networking luncheon

The McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce will host the McHenry Scramble, a networking event which revolves around a luncheon, from 11 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. April 22 at the McHenry Country Club, 820 N. John Street. The event, sponsored by Centegra HealthSystem, offers attendees an opportunity to network before, during and after the luncheon. Admission is $25 for Chamber members and $40 for non-members. A two-for-one special ($50) is available for members with a non-member guest. Budget woes force village to drop police chief

A report stated that due to budget constraints, the Village of Bull Valley has been forced to eliminate the position of police chief, costing current Police Chief Jim Page his job. Page served as police chief for one year after assuming the position to replace the late Norbert Saunders. In a written statement, Village President Emily Berendt said that the police department’s remaining officers will be placed under the supervision of Village Administrator Richard Vance. Friends of Library offering pair of college scholarships

The Friends of the Cary Area Library (FOCAL) is offering two $500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors who reside within the boundaries of the Cary Area Public Library District and are planning to attend a four-year college or university. Chamber, Park Dist. to host Community Clean-Up Day

The Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce and the Crystal Lake Park District will host Crystal Lake Community Clean-Up Day from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 23 at McCormick Park, 427 W. Virginia St. The annual event, held in conjunction with Earth Day, is free of charge and will be held rain or shine. This year’s event includes a shredding truck, a shoe recycling station, the Home of the Sparrow donation truck, games and activities, and free breakfast and lunch for all volunteers. Volunteers will be given garbage bags, gloves and a location assignment to clean up trash left behind by winter in the community’s streets, neighborhoods and parks.
