The winners of the Washington 2016 Good Neighbor Award are Jack and Ginger Stone, who were nominated by Nate, Leah and Sawyer Dobbins.

The Good Neighbor Award is given to individuals who stand out in their service to others, going above and beyond the normal expectation of what it means to be a good neighbor. The award was presented to the Stones by Washington Mayor Gary Manier on June 3.

In their nomination, the Dobbins expressed, “It wasn’t long after moving to our neighborhood in April, 2015, that we knew we had made a great decision. Jack and Ginger welcomed us with open arms, even before we moved into the house.

“Among the countless things that they have done to qualify as Good Neighbors, we could mention Jack loaning his truck to help move items, his helping with things around the house, giving advice, and being a huge resource of information,” the Dobbins said in their nomination. “He brings in the neighbors’ trashcans and clears the sidewalks and driveways when it snows for those who need a little extra help. To top things off, in his ‘spare time’, Jack manages to be one of the coordinators for the Washington to Peoria St. Jude Run.”

The Dobbins had high praise for Ginger as well saying “(she) has shown our family a lot of love and care — during our pregnancy with Sawyer, she and the other neighbor ladies had a baby shower for us. She’s always sending little snacks and treats our way. Most importantly, she has loved our son and constantly wants to see him. Her huge heart makes it so easy to see why she, along with Jack, is such a great pair.”

Nate and Leah Dobbins expressed their affection for the city as a whole, saying they were “truly excited to be part of this community and have our son grow up with such great people and true friends that love and care for each of us so much. We can’t think of anyone who exemplifies the traits of a Good Neighbor more than our friends and neighbors, Jack and Ginger Stone.”

The Good Neighbor Award is given out as part of the annual Good Neighbor Days in Washington.
