The Illini Girls’ State is a program using Illinois government as a pattern. The program provides citizenship training for over 500 high school juniors each year. Upon arrival at the University attendees become citizens within counties. Two political parties are organized and girls campaign for offices. Elected officials assume their duties and conduct themselves as though they were officials of the State. The goal of the experience is to provide awareness of the responsibilities, rights and privileges of being American citizens.
