Learn to Play the Steel Drum!

METAMORA – Its home is Trinidad and its roots are African, but you can learn to play the marvelously sounding steel drum in central Illinois! This June, a weeklong steel drum class for adults and for children will again be offered at Metamora Township High School.

The classes are open to everyone and you do not have to live within the high school district. Learning and playing the steel drum is amazingly easy and by the end of the week, you will be playing music from the Caribbean, maybe even a Jimmy Buffett tune or two!
The classes are for adults and children, and will be held from Monday, June 11th through Friday, June 15th. The children’s class will meet from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day and the adult class will meet from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eligible children must be entering 5th grade through 12th grade—no age limit on adults! Cost for each participant is $70. No previous musical experience is required or needed.
