Activate Elgin kicks off 'March into Health' project

Activate Elgin’s March into Health kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday with Elgin’s Largest Family Fitness Class at The Centre of Elgin.

“Last year we had approximately 200 people show up for this kick-off event” said Randy Reopelle, Elgin Parks and Recreation Director. “It was very exciting to see family members of all ages and abilities in the field house exercising together.”

The free fitness class will last approximately 30 minutes and be followed by free use of The Centre’s field house and swimming pools until 8:30 p.m.

Elgin’s Largest Family Fitness Class launches the third annual March into Health, a month-long series of activities that promotes physical activity and healthy eating.

“We are very concerned about the health of our residents” said Mayor David Kaptain, “and it has been proven that the best way to be healthy is through physical exercise and eating properly”

Presented by Activate Elgin, March into Health will feature 21 different activities that residents can participate in between March 7 and April 6.

These activities will be offered at various times and partner sites throughout Elgin. Anyone that attends or participates in four or more of the activities, and fills out a March into Health passport, will qualify for a drawing featuring great prizes including an Xbox One Fitness game, Fit Bits and other health related prizes.

The March into Health passports, which include event details, can be downloaded from the website – or picked up at any of the partner facilities.
