Open Horse Show Returns to Madison County Fair
July 22, 2010HIGHLAND – For years the Board of the Madison County Fair has wanted to bring back the open horse show to the Fair. At long last support for the show has been realized. Horse Show superintendent Scott Schuetz has gathered sanctioning support from the NBHA, IBRA, ApHC and APHA and accumulated nearly $5,000 in prize money. Usually the Fair concludes on Thursday night, but this year it will be extended into Friday to accomodate the horse show which will be held at 10:00 A.M.
As with all county fairs, there will be a wide variety of events and programs to interest every member of the family. One of the major attractions this year will be Brian Willis who will be doing chain saw sculpturing at various times throughout the week. On Thursday evening there will be an auction of wood carvings.
New this year is a craft fair on Thursday from 11:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. in the Dance Hall.
In addition will be the many animal judgings, 4-H events, tractor pulls, an antique tractor show, and carnival attractions. The carnival will be open from 5:00-11:00 P.M. Sunday through Thursday. Armbands are available for $15 on all but Monday.
The Main Stage Pavillion shows will feature 'Paul Jarvis and the Old Barn Boys' on Monday, July 26 from 8:00-midnight. Tuesday's group will be 'Mark Murphy.' The 'Avery Hill Band' will perform Wednesday night, followed by 'Whiskey River' on Thursday night and ending with 'Smokin Aces' on Friday, July 30.
