Recently, the Woodford County Board heard a presentation proposing the people of the County hold an election to say which power broker can offer electricity at the lowest rate. The more people represented by a certain power broker will have vendors competing, so the citizens can get the best deal, they say.

Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn’t. Power brokers have to get paid. They say they will be paid by the power vendors– but where will the vendors ultimately get their money?
My biggest concern is spending tax money to fund a referendum so that voters can decide if we want our elected employees to let us vote to let the people they pick to make those decisions, or whether we should just each make our own decisions?
Whi is the government even be involved in this decision, telling the citizens who they will pay to supply our electricity? The government seems to be aligning itself with specific players in private industry– and for whose good? It may possibly be ours, but should we have to vote to have someone else make that decision for us? Yeah, what a revoltin’ development this is!
Contact your County Board representative, NOW. Ask them to explain this project to you; voice your opinion to them, since the Board will vote to decide if the taxpayers are going pay extra to vote to make a decision. If you don’t like what your representative tells you, maybe you should tell them to vote “no” now, rather than spend thousands of tax dollars just to let the citizens vote no anyway.
If you like what you hear, have them vote “yes,” but we deserve to have a say on whether we even want to pay for a referendum.
