Palatine YMCA janitor charged with taking video of underage girls
Chronicle Media — July 17, 2015Elizur Gomez, 34, of Palatine, has been arrested for and charged with using his cellphone to record video of underage girls in the locker room at the Buehler YMCA in Palatine, according to reports.
Gomez, of the 1500 block of Silver Lane in Palatine, was taking video of the two girls, ages 14 and 16, while they were changing in the locker room on July 12, according to police. The victims noticed what Gomez was allegedly doing and told YMCA staff and their parent, who then called 911, according to reports.
Palatine police say officers arrived on the scene just after 6:30 p.m. that Sunday and found Gomez, who was still inside the building and had his cellphone on him.
Gomez was then taken to the police headquarters where he reportedly gave a statement indicating his intent to record the females in the locker room, according to police. He has been charged with two felony counts of unauthorized video recording, according to reports.
Gomez is not a YMCA staff member, but was employed by a company hired by the YMCA to clean the building, according to reports. The company has since fired Gomez, at the insistence of the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago, according to statements released by the YMCA.
Gomez’s bond was set at $45,000 on July 15 and his next court date was set for Aug. 4, according to reports.
