BookerFest Returns to Rockford Scene for the Weekend

Family-friendly activities , carnival rides, food, vendors' booths and good music abound at the Booker Washington Center's annual BookerFest on Kent Street. Admission is free.
ROCKFORD – Once again Rockford residents can enjoy the family-friendly activities of Bookerfest. Held at the Booker Washington Community Center, 524 Kent Street, it will begin Saturday, August 7 at 11:00 A.M. and run to 10:00 P.M. There will be carnival rides, food vendors, merchandise vendors, community information booths, and entertainment. Admission is free.
'Gospel Sunday' on August 8 will feature local church choirs and praise dancers.
One of the entertainers scheduled for this event is 'Diamond,' a mild-mannered library clerk who has become a rhythm and blues singer with the group 'Freestyle.' During the week Diamond is known as Odessa Barmore, but on the stage she morphs into an incomparable blues-singer. She performs with 'Freestyle' which was organized by her brother, Paul, and named by her daughter Dree.
Also performing will be Harlan Jefferson, Propa Intro and others.
The mission of the Booker Washington Community Center is to provide an environment that promotes the quality of life, values, and the welfare of the people of our community through education, art, recreational and cultural programs, and to promote learning and sharing within the greater multi cultural community.
