Roanoke, Morton seniors win scholarship. Eureka College names Ronald Reagan Leadership Fellows.

EUREKA – Six graduating seniors will receive a full scholarship to Eureka College next year. The Ronald W. Reagan Leadership Program sponsors Reagan Fellows, each of whom receive a full-tuition scholarship over four years in addition to global travel and professional mentorship opportunities. There were 100 semifinalists in the competition. Winners were selected on the basis of leadership, service and academic excellence.

From Roanoke is Nichole Daugherty, a daughter of Michael and Amy Daugherty. She attends Roanoke-Benson High School, where she is president of the Student Council and is a four-year member of the concert, marching and pep bands, the school newspaper staff, the scholastic bowl team and the CAPTAINS organization. She is a member of National Honor Society, is a tutor and has participated in FFA and the yearbook staff. She volunteers at the Roanoke Public Library, has been president of a 4-H Club for three years and is a member of her church’s youth group. She plans to major in elementary education.

Others who will be Reagan Fellows are:

Newton Holt, a son of Larry and Heather Holt of Groveland. He attends Morton High School, Morton, where he is involved in the theater program, acting in 12 plays and musicals. He also helped organize a student-led theater program in which students write, direct and perform their own plays. He teaches Sunday school, leads a church youth group and taught a Vacation Bible School in Jacmel, Haiti. He volunteers at a mission for women and children. He plans to major in English-writing.

Besides receiving full tuition, Reagan Fellows participate in workshops and retreats throughout the school year. During the summers of their sophomore and junior years, Reagan Fellows have mentorships with leaders in their field within the United States and abroad. The program provides funding to support travel and living expenses for the mentorships.

The Reagan Leadership Program is in its 32nd year. The program is named for Ronald W. Reagan, 40th president of the United States and a 1932 graduate of Eureka College.
