Students from the NIU jazz studio will perform live and jam alongside local amateur and professional jazz musicians from 8-10 p.m. every Tuesday throughout the semester at The House Café, 263 E. Lincoln Hwy., DeKalb.

Today is the final day of Northern Rehab Physical Therapy Specialists’ food drive to benefit food pantries that serve DeKalb, Sycamore, Genoa, Rochelle and Sandwich. Items most needed include canned meat (chicken, tuna), pasta, parmesan cheese, bread crumbs, dry goods, canned foods, rice, beans or any non-perishable items that have a long shelf life. Items may be dropped off at Northern Rehab’s DeKalb offices or their locations in Genoa, Rochelle or Sandwich. Learn how to create your very own super small garden. Blumen Gardens will provide everything needed to create a small garden including simple care techniques to keep your plant healthy. The class fee covers all necessary components: a container chosen from a variety of small cups, mugs and dishes; potting soil; a mini-plant; two micro mini-figurines; rocks; moss; gravel and guided instruction from the store’s designers.

The Best Picture Film Series

The Egyptian Theatre is holding its 2018 Best Picture Film Series through March 6, featuring Oscar Best Picture winning films from each decade. The next film in the series is “One Flew Over the Cuckoo‘s Nest” In this 1975 film, a criminal – Jack Nicholson in his Oscar Award for Best Actor performance – pleads insanity after getting into trouble again. While in the mental institution, he rebels against the oppressive nurse and rallies up the scared patients.
