Changes Coming to Relay for Life

EUREKA – Yes, it’s cold outside, but just imagine a warm summer evening with friends and neighbors gathered in one location for one good cause.

The Eureka Relay for Life to raise funds to benefit the American Cancer Society will take place Friday, June 27 at a new time and new location.

This year, we will gather from noon to midnight. There will be no overnight or Saturday morning activities. As everyone is so busy these days, the Relay committee thought it best to devote just one evening to this important and popular event that’s now an 18-year tradition for family, friends and co-workers in Eureka.

Also this year, we will gather around the Cerf Center at Eureka College, with the large parking lot providing space for walkers, the survivors’ walk, the luminary ceremony and the entertainment stage. Activities like the popular basket auction, will be held inside, while other events, like the live auction, will be held outdoors. Participants are invited to pitch tents or set their lawn chairs in the grassy areas around Cerf Center and enjoy all the action.

The committee hopes the new shortened time period and the new more convenient location pleases current and prospective Relayers. Please consider forming a team or even volunteering your assistance to plan this event that helps us fight cancer in honor or in memory of those we love.

It’s easy to help or to form a team. Just call the American Cancer Society at 309-688-3488 today!

Committee Chairwoman is Jyl Zubiate. Committee members are Pete Hughes, Carol Hughes, Sue Knepp, Michele Lehman, Yvonne Folkerts and Sharon Hanner
