Hobo Symbols Illustrated and Explained

EUREKA – Debra Henninger will explain the history of the symbols used by hobos in the Depression era to let other hobos know the kind of person living at houses around the country. In addition she will relate many of the hobo’s stories she learned while researching the subject. The program will be at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, April 15 at the Eureka Public Library, 202 S. Main. Debra Henninger is an area quilt shop owner and author of the book, “Hobo Quilts.” The book includes over 55 quilt blocks that use hobo symbols for their designs. Henninger will have her book available for sale and signing at the event. The presentation is free, but space is limited. Call the library at 309-467-2922 to register by April 12.
