Saxon Gives Overview of Lincoln, the Man

METAMORA – Randall Saxon, well-known local historian, will give a talk about Abraham Lincoln to the Woodford County Historical Society at 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 10 at the Historic Metamora Courthouse. Mr. Saxon’s talk is entitled “Abraham Lincoln: Body, Mind and Spirit” and is an examination of Lincoln as a whole person, complete with foibles and ailments. The event is free and open to the public.

The Historic Metamora Courthouse is on the square in Metamora. From the 1840s until 1896 it was the courthouse for the county. Maintained by the State, it is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, from 1:00 – 5:00 PM.

The Woodford County Historical Society meets on the second Thursday of each month, March through December, in different locations in the county. Vitally interested in preserving the past for future generations, the Society maintains a genealogical collection and mini-museum at its headquarters, 112 N. Main in Eureka, and is open for visits from 1:00 – 4:00 PM on Wednesdays and Fridays. The May 8 meeting will be a presentation of the project to save the 165 year old Davidson Barn.
