Eureka Library January Program Schedule

EUREKA – The Janaury schedule for Eureka Public Library programs:

Thursdays, January 3rd and 17th, 10 am, Stacks & Snacks Stop by the library and enjoy a cup of tea while we talk about new books! The first Thursday of every month we bring out the newest titles and authors that have made the news and the shelves of EPLD. The third Thurs-day we discuss what we’ve been reading. It is a fast hour as we talk books and authors, and you’ll leave with a whole new reading-to-do list!

Monday, January 7th, 6:30 pm, Soldier Cards We will be making greeting cards to send to active-duty servicemen and women for their use while in the military. We make all kinds of cards, so take some time one Monday a month to participate in this service program! Cost is $5, and the money is used for supplies and to cover postage. Register by Friday, January 4th by calling the Library at 467-2922.

Tuesdays, January 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th, 10—11 am, Tech Tuesdays Tech Tuesdays is a weekly time when Library staff is available to help with ereader set up and using your library card to get free ebooks and audiobooks. The Library staff is also available by appointment and on set up clinics on January 19th and 24th (see below). Call the Library at 467-2922 for more information.

Tuesday, January 8th, 6:30 pm, A New Year, A New You! The Library is hosting a 2013 Program Preview Party—come and celebrate the new year with us. We will have prize contests and drawings throughout the night; free mini workshops on creating a refreshed new you through yoga, massage, and winter self care techniques. Interspersed throughout the night will be sneak peaks at new programs ranging from new book clubs to travel planning seminars, that are in the works. Thursdays, January 10th, & 31st, 6:00 pm, Your Last Diet Ever Tired of trying something new each week in an effort to lose weight…only to see the weight always return? Ideal Protein is a medically designed and professionally supervised wellness protocol found only in medical offices. Dr. Carrie Musselman will provide information on how to take weight off, stay healthy, and keep the weight off. Please call 309-222-2302 to register.

Monday, January 14th, 6:30 pm, Learning Basic Microsoft Programs Need to sharpen your Microsoft Office skills for a new job or do you want to learn how to use programs such as Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, or Access? The Library is now providing free access to the online Microsoft Academy learning program. The courses are self-paced, and, once you are registered, you can complete the courses at home or use a library computer. On Monday, January 14th we will explain the program and provide free access codes. Space is very limited; call the Library by Friday, January 11th at 467-2922 to register for the course.

Tuesday, January 15th, 6:30 pm, Sit and Stitch Join fellow knitters, crocheters, needleworkers, and crafters for this informal gathering. We enjoy each other’s company as we work on our own projects, and help each other with pattern ideas and projects gone awry!

Thursday, January 17th, 6:30 pm, at Eureka Apostolic Christian Home Activity Room, Travelogue: St. Petersburg, Russia: Splendor of the Czars Debra Blunier shares her photos from a week in St. Petersburg in August 2012, exploring the splendors of Peter the Great’s capital city, along with the historical traces of Lenin and the Bolshevik Revolution that began there. Program will be held in the Activity Room of the Eureka Apostolic Christian Home.

Saturday, January 19th, 10:00—11:30 am, Craft Saturday: Make A Sock Monkey Want a fast and fun sewing project? Make a cute and cuddly classic—the sock monkey! Projects will be hand sewn-so no need to drag your sewing machine to class. Class fee is $10. You can bring a pair of socks or purchase a pair from the instructor for an additional $7. Also bring a pair of sharp scissors and a thimble; all other materials will be provided. Registration and payment (both class and if needed, socks) deadline is January 14th. Saturday, January 19th, 10:00 am—12:00 pm, Ereader Set Up Clinic Did you receive an ereader for Christmas and need help setting it up to check out digital library books or audiobooks? Library staff will be available to assist you during this open-house clinic. Please bring your ereader fully charged. Call the Library at 467-2922 for more information.

Thursday, January 24th, 6:30—8:00 pm, Ereader Set Up Clinic (See information above). This evening is a repeat for those who cannot attend on the 19th. We are also available to help by appointment at your convenience, just call us to set up a time!

Saturday, January 26th, 10:00 am, The Mysterious Ordeal of the Lady Be Good Don Samford will be discussing the story of the WWII bomber missing in 1943 and found in the middle of the Libyan Desert in 1958. Learn the story and fate of this bomber and crew which in-cluded Samuel E. Adams of Eureka, Illinois. Register for this program by Thursday, January 24th by calling the Library at 467-2922.

Monday, January 28th, 6:30 pm, Avoiding The Cost of Meat With More Meatless Meals Whether you’re looking for meatless options for the upcoming Lenten season or you just want lower cost alternatives because of the high price of meat, Registered Dietitian and Universi-ty of Illinois Extension Educator, Jenna Smith, will offer ideas and motivation to try more meatless entrees. This program will include a cooking demonstration and tastings. Class fee is $3. Register and prepay at the Library (467-2922) by Thursday, January 24th.

Tuesday, January 29th, 6:30 pm, So You Want To Go To . . . Walt Disney World Frequent WDW traveler Amber Harmon will be pre-senting a fun-filled hour of tips and tricks to make the most out of your Walt Disney World vacation. The program is free; please register by Monday, January 28 by calling the Library at 467-2922
