Aggressive dog shot by Kendall County resident

A dog with a history of aggression was shot and killed last week by a Kendall County resident who allegedly witnessed the animal about to attack a dog and its owner.

According to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were called to Susan John Park, 29 Hampton Road, unincorporated Montgomery, at around 2:07 p.m. on April 9, for a report of a loose dog being aggressive toward a person and their leashed dog.

Deputies said that when they arrived, they found that the reported aggressive dog, described as a pit bull mix, had been shot one time by another person. The person who shot the dog was at his home near the park, witnessed the animal’s aggression, and interceded between the dog and the victim. The person who shot the dog had a valid Illinois Concealed Carry License and immediately unloaded his firearm and turned it over to deputies. There were no other injuries reported.

According to deputies, the dog, which was later determined to be deceased, had a history of aggression and biting. The Sheriff’s Office has investigated two previous incidents this year involving the dog which have resulted in the owner of the dog receiving two citations for no rabies tag and one citation for dog running at large. The dog had also been referred to Kendall County Animal Control for one of the previous incidents for a bite. The incident is still being investigated

subhed:Oswego Robotic Team heads to World Championships

Gear it Forward, a robotics team from Oswego High School (OHS) and Oswego East High School (OEHS), is headed to the first World Championships in St. Louis, after winning the Midwest Regional Chairman’s Award for the second year in a row.

The Chairman’s Award honors the team that best represents a model for other teams to emulate and best embodies the purpose and goals of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology).

The Midwest Regional robotics competition was held at the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Pavilion. Fifty-two teams of high school students from the United States, as well as two teams from Kocaeli and Ankara, Turkey, competed with their robots and made presentations about their impact with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) in their communities.

Gear It Forward worked its way up through the qualifying rounds, and after losing two of its first three matches, came back to rank third. During the alliance selection, Gear It Forward was selected by the second-place team to be a part of the second seeded alliance.

Throughout the quarterfinals and semi-finals, the alliance won four straight matches to advance to the final round. This included the high score of the competition with 189 points. The final matches between the top-two seeded alliances were hard fought, but in the end, the first seed alliance won and Gear It Forward’s alliance ended up in second place for the third year in a row. This earned the team its first trophy of the day but not a trip to the World Championships.

During all of the robot competitions, each team also presented to a panel of judges, describing how their team has helped spread and grow STEM in its community. Gear It Forward presented on Friday, but the results of that competition would not be known until the final award of the competition, the Chairman’s Award, the most prestigious prize in First.

Gear It Forward earned the Chairman’s Award for the second year in a row, which automatically qualifies the team for a trip to St. Louis and the FIRST World Championship.

Gear it Forward is sponsored by Caterpillar, Navistar, and Community Unit School District 308.

For those interested in supporting the team’s travel to St. Louis, please visit its GoFundMe page:https://www.gofundme.com/GearItForward.
