Trump ban needs a time frame

Of course you remember that the next president of the United States, Donald Trump, has proposed a temporary ban on all Muslims entering the country.
To keep us even more safe, the Republican standard bearer now has expanded that position.
Trump would not limit the entry ban to merely Muslims. Geography would be added to religion as a reason to exclude people from entering the United States. He would suspend immigration from areas of the world where there is “a proven history of terrorism.”
Trump went on to promise, “When I’m elected, I will suspend immigration from areas of the world where there is a proven history of terrorism against the United States, Europe or our allies until we fully understand how to end these threats.”
I’m sure it’s just an oversight. But something is missing from this immigration doctrine.
What is missing is a time reference.
Trump wants to exclude from entering the U.S. people from areas that have a history of wishing harm to America.

But any talk about history has to include a time frame.
Areas that want to harm this country. OK, got it.
But, since when?
How far back do we go?
Back to 1965? Vietnam wanted to harm the U.S. then. Should we ban Vietnamese from entering this country?
In 1942, Germany, Japan and Italy tried to destroy America. So, should we ban from our shores Germans, Japanese and Italians?
And twice — twice! — Britain tried to destroy us, first in 1776 and then again in 1812. Do we ban Britons?
“Sorry, Queen Elizabeth, no Brits allowed. Royals go home!”
The trickiest problem would be how to handle the states that were part of the Confederacy. They wanted to destroy the United States. They committed acts of terrorism. But, how can they be banned? They’re already here.
I guess there has to be a statute of limitations on whom to ban. You can come to the United States (or remain part of the United States) if you haven’t tried to destroy it within the last X number of years.
When Trump becomes president, he can spell out how many years have to expire after another country tries to destroy us before residents of those countries can come here.
Personally, I may be jumping the gun, but I already have forgiven Great Britain.
And Texas, Virginia, Alabama, and all the other ex-Confederates?
Oh, all right. You can stay.
