The Life of Riley: It Is Simple, But It Is Not as Simple as It Is!

By Jerry Riley

Several people have told me that some of the things I talk about are more complex than I think they are. Maybe, but then again, maybe they aren‘t. Many of the things I have questioned have been done this way for years. So? Does that make them correct – or even the best way to do it?

I go back to Coach Mac McCollum’s KISS concept: “Keep it simple stupid.” In this case, the stupid may apply to those who say it has always been done that way, and appear to be apprehensive about changing things, even though the change may be better.
At least change is activity, perhaps an adventure into the unknown, but, if it is not what you wanted, you can change again, or back to the old comfortable way it’s always been done.
Most of the time, change starts out as confusion. Lots of times change means someone’s ego is being bruised or they think someone is trying to take their power or authority, or, at least, the power or authority they assume they have.
Most political decisions affect government, and the taxpayers often only get involved during an election year – the time many politicians appear before their voters, and, my fellow voters and taxpayers, what a revoltin’ development this is! Change denotes movement and, movement is better than stagnation. If the change is not a positive change, remember and vote to fire the elected employee at the next election.
