NSSRA to hold ‘Shining Stars’ celebration May 10
May 8, 2019The North Suburban Special Recreation Association will hold its annual Shining Stars Awards & Recognition Banquet on May 10 at the Hilton Chicago/Northbrook. With nearly 400 participants, family members, staff, board members, supporters and partners expected to attend, the annual gathering gives NSSRA an opportunity to recognize those who have truly made a difference over the previous year. It’s also a chance to acknowledge and appreciate NSSRA’s families.
This year’s evening of recognition, celebration and dancing will honor 10 award winners, including NSSRA’s Gator Athlete of the Year, Youth Participant of the Year and Adult Participant of the year. Program staff, volunteers and community partners will also be recognized for their exceptional efforts and commitment to NSSRA during 2018.
One such community partner, Linda Goodman originally of Winnetka, is being honored as NSSRA’s 2018 “Friend of the Year.” Goodman has been the organizer of the Nielsen USTA Pro Tennis Championship for over three decades, of which NSSRA has been the charitable recipient for going on 11 years. In that time the tournament has donated more than $175,000 to NSSRA programs and services. Held at Winnetka Park District each year, the tournament attracts some
of the finest tennis players in the world.
Additional award winners include Wilmette Park District (Partner Agency of the Year) and the Weber family of Kenilworth (Family of the Year).
The event is sponsored by NSSRA Foundation, with additional support from local businesses, families, community supporters and donors. This year’s Presenting Sponsor is the Gerald & Olivia Shapiro Family Foundation of Highland Park. See a full list of sponsors at www.nssrafoundation.org/shiningstars.
