Aurora man kills trooper, dies in shootout with Virginia police

Authorities hSUB 040616 virginia shootoutave confirmed that an an Aurora man was the person killed in a shootout with Virginia State Police officers on Thursday  in Richmond, Va.

James Brown III, 34, formerly of the 600 block of N. May St. in Aurora, died in the shootout at a Richmond bus terminal after fatally shooting a Virginia state trooper..

Trooper Chad P. Dermyer, 37, lost his life after Brown reportedly opened fire while he another law enforcement agents were engaged in interdiction training at the location.

According to reports, Brown shot the trooper multiple times before he was killed by two other officers. The Richmond Times-Dispatch said two other women suffered what were described as non-life threatening injuries.

“Our hearts go out to the Virginia State Police and the family & friends of those lost in this tragic incident,” Aurora Police said in the statement.

The investigation is ongoing and Aurora police said they had little additional information.
