East Aurora Names New Student Board Reps

East Aurora High School seniors Karina Myrtil and Miguel Sanchez have been selected as the 2012-2013 Student Board Members on the East Aurora Board of Education.

Both Myrtil and Sanchez are student-athletes who impressively balance honors courses, athletics, co-curricular activities, and community involvement.
“Karina is a driven student with a passion to succeed both academically and athletically,” said Kathryn Wyss, EAHS Biology Teacher and Varsity Volleyball Coach.
Captain of the Varsity Volleyball Team, Karin Myrtil is also the Secretary of the National Honor Society, Treasurer of the Drama Club, and a member of the Newspaper Club. In the community, she serves on the Youth Board for her church where she has taken mission trips to Tennessee and West Virginia.
“Being selected means the world to me. It gives me a platform to represent all of the students at East,” said Myrtil.
That sentiment is also held by her fellow Student Board Member.
“To me, this position is about what East Aurora is and what it can become. I want to contribute to the qualities that make our district a unique and evolving community,” said Miguel Sanchez.
Miguel has been involved since his freshman year. He served as Captain of the Track Team, Vice President of Junior Class Council, a member of the Marching Band, a member of the Spanish Honors Society, the German Honor Society, and the Student Athlete Society. In the community, he is an assistant teacher for his church’s communion classes and an avid volunteer for the Fox Valley Music Festival and the Aurora Sports Festival.
