The Kane County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of a 26-year-old Batavia man who was struck by a vehicle early May 8 while standing outside his home.

According to Lt. Patrick Gengler, the incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. in the 2S800 block of Meadowview Road in unincorporated Batavia Township.

A 29-year-old woman was visiting the victim, Jeremy Kostrzewa, at his home and at some point the pair ended up outside, Gengler said

A preliminary investigation revealed that while outside the home, the woman got in a vehicle and struck Kostrzewa with the car.

Police were called and Kostrzewa was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 29-year-old North Aurora woman was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Gengler said no charges have been filed and the incident remains under investigation.

He would not comment on the relationship between the man and woman involved, or the moments that lead up to the incident.

“Our investigators are still talking to witnesses to people familiar with the two people involved” he said. “We are processing the vehicle and really just trying to put together what happened.”

Gengler said because a vehicle was involved, the department’s accident reconstruction group is assisting in the investigation.

“At this point it is still way too early to speculate what if any criminal charge would be applicable or if this was just simply an accident,” Gengler said.
