Conservation Dist. earns major accounting award
The McHenry County Conservation District — under the leadership of Director of Finance & Administration Andy Dylak, Accounting Supervisor Jean Gerstbrein and Accounting Assistant Linda Bryant — received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for the seventh consecutive year. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and recognizes agencies that go beyond the minimum requirements to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure. The GFOA is a non-profit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals in North America.

American Legion to host Veterans Vet Fest
Huntley American Legion Post 673 will host Veterans Vet Fest from 3-11 p.m. June 24 at Huntley American Legion, 11712 Coral St.. The event features beer, food, raffle prizes and live entertainment, including headlining band Tongue-n-Groove (8:30-11 p.m.), as well as Vertical Jam (6-8 p.m.) and Serendipity (3:30-5:30 p.m.). All proceeds from the event will benefit Pits For Patriots, Gifts to the Yanks, New Horizons, Operation Comfort Warrior and other charitable organizations. Grabner steps down as Huntley girls soccer coach
Huntley Community School District 158 reported that longtime Huntley High School teacher and soccer coach Kris Grabner has stepped down after a 14-year run as the head coach of the girls varsity soccer team. He will continue to coach the school’s boys varsity soccer team. Grabner posted an overall mark of 229-75-15 during his tenure as girls coach, and led the Red Raiders to 11 consecutive Illinois High School Association (IHSA) regional championships, three sectional championships, six conference titles and a fourth-place finish in the 2016 IHSA state tournament. Grabner’s ledger also includes 144 wins in 14 years as the Red Raiders’ boys coach.

Park Dist. program offers tips for selling homes
The Cary Park District will present a special program, Learn How to Prepare & Stage Your Home to Sell, from 9-10:30 a.m. June 24 at the Community Center, 255 Briargate Road. Attendees will learn tips from a real estate professional and certified staging consultant on how to make a home on the market stand out against the competition. In addition, the program will show participants how to modernize on a budget, offer helpful tips on how to start the selling process and provide useful feedback on how get the most return in the end. 5th Annual Aviation Expo includes pancake breakfast
The village announced that the 5th Annual Aviation Expo will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 25 at Lake in the Hills Airport, 8407 Pyott Road. The annual event showcases the products and services available at the airport, including aircraft sales, full service fuels, maintenance, repairs, flight school, a pilot shop, aircraft rental, flight training, hot air ballooning and FAA testing. Businesses and vendors that serve the airport will be on hand, and numerous aircraft and helicopters will be on display. In addition, the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) will host an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast ($8 for adults). Sales from the breakfast directly support the local EAA chapter, which provides free airplane rides for kids on the first Saturday of each summer month as well as a scholarship for high school age students seeking a career in aviation. Christian Fellowship to host annual Summer Bash
Christian Fellowship Church of Crystal Lake, 3419 Walkup Road, will host its second annual Summer Bash from noon to 2 p.m. June 25. The event includes food trucks from Rogue Curbside Kitchen, Ofrenda and Kona Ice, a Kids Zone (inflatables, water games and more), free-play games (volleyball, golf pitching, water balloon slingshot, bean bags and washer toss), fire truck and police car tours, the Wiffle Ball Tournament, a raffle drawing and more. The series begins with an all-ages screening of the 2017 animated action film, “The LEGO Batman Movie” (rated PG) from 1-3 p.m. June 24, followed by an all-ages screening of the 1966 film, “Batman: The Movie,” starring the late Adam West, star of the iconic 1960s TV show, “Batman,” from 6:30-8:30 p.m. June 26. The series concludes with a special program (for adults and teens) featuring local author Robert Garcia, who will discuss his acclaimed coffee table book, “Batman: A Celebration of the Classic TV Series,” written with co-author Joe Desris, from 6:30-8 p.m. June 27. Village offers Noonie Nature Time programs
As part of Chicago Wilderness’ “No Child Left Behind” initiative, the village is offering a series of Noonie Nature Time programs with nature expert Barb Wilson. The programs are open to all ages, and include hands-on activities at different area parks and a craft related to the theme of the day. The next session, entitled Rocks, will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 29 at Cornish Park, 101 S. Harrison St.. Admission is free; no pre-registration is required.
