Eureka College Students to Demonstrate Medieval Fighting Techniques

EUREKA – Students in the 8th annual Central Illinois Stage Combat Workshop will present a free demonstration of fighting skills from 1–2 p.m. June 3 in Pritchard Theatre at Eureka College.

The students will demonstrate fighting with quarterstaff and small sword, which were used in medieval combat. The demonstration will include adult language and violence.
As part of the performance, participants will undergo proficiency testing for certification in combat skills that are used to fight on stage and in films and television shows.
Five students from five states are participating in the workshop, which runs May 16 to June 3. The workshop instructors are D.C. Wright, a theater professor at Western Illinois University, and John Tovar, the director of MACE, which stands for Movement and Combat Education, located in Geneva.
