: “Being a bus driver is rewarding and can provide some extra income, but it’s not an easy job to fill,” said Jeff Vose, Director of Illinois’ Association of Regional Superintendents of Schools.

School starts in just a few weeks and districts across Illinois are still looking for a few more bus drivers.

Jeff Vose is the director of Illinois’ Association of Regional Superintendents of Schools and is the regional superintendent in the Springfield area.

He said most of the districts he works with need at least one driver.

“Out of the 13 districts that we serve, I don’t know one of those districts that (is) not looking for a full-time or a substitute bus driver,” Vose said.

Vose said being a bus driver is rewarding and can provide some extra income, but he admits it’s not an easy job to fill.

“You could have a morning route, possibly a noon route and a route around 3; and you can also have activities and field trips,” Vose added. “It’s kind of a tough shift. It’s not a straight eight hour, or seven and a half hour shift.”

There are also background checks and drug tests that disqualify some applicants.

Vose said many districts are hiring now.
