BATAVIA
City hosts open house at water treatment plant
The Batavia Environmental Commission and the city of Batavia will host a water department tour and presentation on July 16 that will be free and open to the public.
John Dillon, Batavia’s water and sewer and superintendent, will give a short presentation about Batavia’s water followed with a tour of the Batavia water treatment plant. Dillon will discuss the history and treatment of the Batavia water supply, and how the water makes it to your faucet.
Presentations are scheduled at 10 a.m. and noon.
“With recent concerns about the safety of municipal water supplies, we are excited to partner with the Water Department to give citizens an up close look at our treatment facilities and a chance have their questions answered by the superintendent himself,” stated Carolyn Burnham, Batavia Environmental Commission member.
Attendees will then be able to tour the treatment facilities and pumping facilities and learn how water is stored and pumped.
The plant is located at 38W503 Fabyan Parkway. (Just west of Wenmoth Road on the south side of street.)

ST. CHARLES
Food tasting will raise funds for museum
The St. Charles History Museum will host its annual fundraising event for adults age 21 and over, featuring a number of local restaurants, each will be providing a tasting of small plates of food, and craft beverages.
The event runs from 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 30. Tickets are $40 for members, $50 for non-members.
Each ticket includes: four food tastings and two drink tickets. Additional tasting and drink tickets will be available at the event at a price of four for $10. Tickets will be available for pickup at the museum prior to the event or at the entrance on the day of the event.
Earlier that day the museum hosts its first annual Family Fun Day, including carnival games, kid friendly food, live music, a dunk tank, face painting, a trackless train and much more. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4p.m.
Admission is $25 for a family of four, $10 per individual. Family ticket includes entry to the event, 25 game tickets, a bag of popcorn, and a bottle of water. Individual ticket includes entry to the event, 10 game tickets, a bag of popcorn, and a bottle of water.

CAMPTON HILLS
Village will hold first-ever Town Hall meeting
The village of Campton Hills will hold its first-ever Town Hall Meeting at 7 p.m. on July 19 at the Congregational United Church of Christ, 40W451 Fox Mill Blvd., Campton Hills.
Village President Harry Blecker and the Village Board of Trustees sent the invitation to residents in June. The agenda will include three major topics of interest: the 2016-17 fiscal year budget, strategic planning goals and the village’s new website.
Time will be set aside for resident question-and-answer period.

Summer camp to help with social media presence
A Social Media Summer Camp for Business is scheduled for three consecutive weeks beginning this Thursday featuring local social media experts leading discussions on a variety of practical social media marketing techniques that local businesses and organizations can incorporate into their daily and weekly routines.
Organized and co-presented by the City of Elgin, Elgin Area Chamber, Elgin Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and Gail Borden Public Library, the Social Media Summer Camp for Business sessions are open to any local businesses and organizations that wish to learn more about social media and marketing done right.
The presentations, held at Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave., Community Room A, will include both lecture and open discussion.
GENEVA
City reminds residents of lawn sprinkling regulations
With summer weather upon us, the City of Geneva reminds residents about lawn watering sprinkler regulations.
Water sprinklers are permitted between 6 and 9 a.m. and 6 and 9 p.m. on residents’ designated days. Residents with an even-numbered street address can water n even-numbered days and vice-versa for odd-numbered street addresses.
Residents are allowed to use a hand-held hose at any time to water flowers, gardens, trees, shrubs, cars, lawns and wading pools that are 50 gallons or less.
For those placing down sod or watering seed, a $25 permit is required through the Public Works Department, 1800 South St. Sod and seed lawns can be watered for the first day for a maximum of eight hours.
