The Martial Arts and National Training Conference will be held July 25-27 at the Tinley Park Convention Center.

This year’s theme is “Triumph Over Trials.”

What started 30 years ago as a regional seminar has grown into an international gathering. This year’s conference features expanded programming, youth-led tracks, new guest instructors, and a mobile app to help participants navigate it all.

The conference is led by Grandmaster Abdul Azziz Muhammad, who has decades in martial arts and security training.

I don’t do this for recognition,” Azziz said. “I do this because our people need training – physical, mental and spiritual. This conference is just one part of that larger mission.”

The conference will include the V.S.K. Ryu Jiu-Jitsu Martial Arts Competition, led by Master Daniel Muhammad, founder of Lion’s Paw Karate and Chess Academy.

Training modules will cover security protocols, leadership development and tactical search techniques.

A women’s track, “From Victim to Victor,” curated by Sister Azziza Muhammad, the grandmaster’s wife, will focus on trauma healing and empowerment.

There will also be an emphasis on youth development, with young people designing their own tracks under the guidance of elders.

No need to leave the youth at home,” Grandmaster Azziz said. “There is an entire conference just for them.”

Azziz said he is committed to preparing the next generation by meeting people where they are. He said his system of V.S.K. Ryu Jiu-Jitsu is rooted in the teachings of Grand Professor Vee, Moses Powell and Soke Lil’ John Davis. It blends physical training with spiritual practices, Azziz said, and includes striking, joint locks, throws and discipline that will be demonstrated throughout the weekend in training sessions and competition.

A V.S.K. Jiu-Jitsu Conference App is live, offering an interactive schedule, map, bios, digital check-in and real time updates.

We’re merging tradition with technology,” Azziz said. “Now every registrant can stay informed and connected – all from their phone.”
