“To Be of Service to Flower Lovers”

These are the final days for Lombard Historical Society’s Carriage House exhibit, “To Be of Service to Flower Lovers,” that allows visitors a peek into the history of Lilacia Park’s creation and information about the horticulture of the lilac. This exhibit features Marymae Meyer’s extensive research, experience and knowledge about Lilacia Park’s lilac collection. Meyer, a longtime resident of Lombard, served two consecutive terms on the board of directors of the International Lilac Society.

Cosley Zoo Run for the Animals

$40 for adult 5K/10K and $20 for children .5-mile race
Cosley Zoo Run for the Animals 5K/10K and 1/2-Mile Zippity Zoo events are hosted by the Cosley Foundation to raise funds for the animals at Cosley Zoo as well as exhibit development projects, public programs and conservation projects. The 5K/10K events are CARA certified and the course is USATF certified. Runners and spectators are invited to a Party in the Park after-party following the races.

Open gaming and teaching will be offered. Players of every skill level from beginners to experts will be on hand. At noon, a blitz tournament will be run by a certified tournament director. Prizes will be awarded. In the event of rain, the event will be moved indoors.
A Chat with Truman

“The buck stops here!” Famously, a sign with these words sat on President Harry S. Truman’s desk. History remembers the sign, the end of World War II and the origins of the Cold War. But, Harry Truman had quite a number of experiences before he became president. Join a Harry Truman impersonator at Fischer Farm and learn about the president’s boyhood in Missouri, his service in the Great War and his role in history.
Stone Hunt

Lizzadro Museum, 220 Cottage Hill Ave., Elmhurst
$5 per person
This hands-on activity allows children and adults to search for gems and minerals among more common rocks. Participants will learn the difference between rocks and minerals and how to distinguish between them. Each rock or mineral found is identified and can be taken home.

Frontier Kite Fly Festival

Gigantic kites, professional demonstrations, stunts and hands-on activities are planned. A family kite flying area, an assortment of kid’s activities including crafts and jump houses, live music and games will add to the experience.
Tosi Architecture Tour
1-4 p.m.
Naper Settlement, 523 S. Webster St., Naperville

This tour focuses on houses designed by suburban home builder Don A. Tosi and built in the 1950s-1980s. The afternoon begins with a presentation on Tosi and his architecture, followed by a guided trolley tour of Tosi homes with a mid-century modern flavor in the area. Recommended for ages 13 and up. “Wonder”

The film is about a child with Treacher Collins syndrome, a rare medical facial deformity, trying to fit into middle school after being home-schooled. Jacob Tremblay stars as the boy; Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson portray his parents.
