Task Force arrests fugitive in Plainfield

On Feb. 7, members of the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended fugitive Anthony Betzwiser in the 2500 block of West Walker Road in Plainfield. Betzwiser, 28, from Plainfield, was wanted on a total of six charges by three different county jurisdictions in the area.

Betzwiser was wanted on a Kendall County warrant for domestic battery and unlawful interfering with the reporting of domestic violence.

He also was wanted on a DuPage County warrant for failing to appear to court on a theft and driving while license suspended and lastly by Will County for failing to appear to court on an obstructing identification and driving while license suspended. Betzwiser has been a fugitive since Nov. 22, 2017.

The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind residents to call Crime Stoppers to report any information regarding fugitive’s whereabouts. Callers who wish to remain anonymous can contact the Kendall County Crime Stoppers at (630) 553-5999, or visit the Kendall County facebook “Fugitive Fridays” for the fugitive of the week.

Daniel C. Meyers, Montgomery’s Chief of Police since 2010, has announced that he will be retiring effective April 30.

Police Chief Meyers announces retirement plans

Daniel C. Meyers, who has served as Montgomery’s Chief of Police since 2010, has announced that he will be retiring effective April 30, 2018 after a distinguished 33-year career in law enforcement.

Meyers has been with the Montgomery Police Department since February of 1985.  He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1988 and served as detective sergeant from 1999 to 2006.  In 2006, Meyers was promoted to the newly created position of deputy chief, which was designed to provide an additional high-level supervisory position within the Police Department.  In 2010, he was named to the top position and has served as Chief of Police for the past eight years.

Meyers expressed his appreciation for his long and rewarding career and said he leaves Montgomery with many good memories.

“I’m proud and thankful, it has been a genuine privilege and honor serving this fine community.”  Meyers said.  “It has always been my goal to provide Montgomery residents with the highest quality professional public safety services.   It’s been a gratifying career, and I’ve had the privilege of working with many outstanding officers and staff.  Although it’s a bittersweet moment, I’m looking forward to the future with enthusiasm.”

Village schedules public meeting on Wolf’s Crossing

The Village of Oswego is completing its work on the Phase I Engineering Study for Wolfs Crossing Road, and is conducting the third and final public information meeting on the project.

The public meeting and open house will be held on Thursday, Feb. 15, to provide residents with a project update and seek additional public input on the preferred alternative of the project.

The Wolf’s Road project includes approximately 4. 5 miles of roadway from U.S. Route 34 to Eola Road.

For the past year and a half, the village and its contractor Schoppe Design Associates have been taking a comprehensive look at the transportation needs of the Wolf’s Road corridor, including an analysis of the existing roadway, safety and capacity issues, and future transportation needs.

The Public Meeting will be conducted in an open house format and interested people can visit anytime between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. Attendees will be able to listen to a narrated PowerPoint presentation, view exhibits, provide comments, and meet with the Village of Oswego study team members one-on-one to ask questions.

The public meeting and open house will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15, at Oswego Village Hall, 100 Parkers Mill, Oswego, Illinois 60543.

Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast to benefit robotics team

The Oswego Police Explorer Post 3525 and the Kiwanis Club of Oswego will be hosting a pancake breakfast fundraiser at Oswego High School on Feb. 24.

The all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast will be from 8 a.m. to noon and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the SD308 Robotics Program / Gear It Forward 2338 which includes over 100 student participants.

The District 308 Robotics Team participates in FIRST Robotics with sponsorship from area businesses. There are a variety of opportunities for student participation including project management/tracking, web design, marketing and community outreach, mechanical build team, electrical build team, programming team, and many more. Participation on the team is open to all students at both Oswego and Oswego East high schools.

The mission of Gear It Forward and FTC teams Mach Speed, Gearaffes, Gears of Fury, and Super Sonics, is to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics by incorporating these fields of study into the foundations of our team, collaborate with experienced professionals to improve practical skills, as well as inspire and teach our current and future community through active engagement in our local area, and beyond.

Advance tickets for this event are $7 and are available online at Event Brite or you can purchase them in person at the Oswego Police Station or the Oswego Chamber of Commerce.

Tickets are also available from your local Kiwanis Club members, Explorers Post members, and student participants of the SD308 Robotics club.

Tickets are available on the day of the event for $8 at the door. Breakfast will include sausage, your choice of beverage, and all-you-can-eat-pancakes. We will also have a robotics demonstration and a coloring station for kids.

Yorkville

CUSD 115 sets kindergarten registration dates

Parents whose children will be starting kindergarten in the fall of 2018 in Yorkville CUSD 115 are invited to attend one of two upcoming parent information and registration evenings. Yorkville CUSD 115 offers a half-day kindergarten program.

Parent Information & Registration Nights are March 6 and 7, 6-7:30 p.m. at Yorkville High School, 797 Game Farm Road.

Attendees should park in the rear parking lot of the high school and enter through Door 19. Parents may attend either session.

Starting at 5:30 p.m., childcare services and registration packet pick-up will be available. From 6-7:30 p.m., school officials will be present to address a variety of topics including kindergarten curriculum, registration, immunization requirements, transportation, day care options, Dual Language/English Learner programs, and questions specific to each school. In addition, a brief overview of District 115’s kindergarten program will be presented at 6 p.m. and again at 6:45 p.m. for parents new to the school district.

In order to enroll in kindergarten, the child must be five (5) years old on or before Sept. 1 of the school year. To complete the registration process, parents/guardians will need to bring an original birth certificate and three (3) proofs of residency (e.g., current tax bill/lease, recent utility bill, driver’s license).

Parents and their incoming kindergarten students will have an opportunity to tour their specific school buildings and meet with their teachers during a Kindergarten Orientation in August.
