Grant program helps village cut energy costs

The village announced that the Public Works & Engineering Department has collaborated with Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA) to participate in the Savings Through Efficient Products (STEP) grant program. STEP is funded through the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity, and is one of Illinois Energy Now’s programs. The purpose of the STEP program is to provide public facilities with free, high-quality energy saving products. As part of the initiative, a total of 46 faucet aerators, 29 indoor and 104 outdoor LED bulbs, seven shower heads and six vending misers were given to the village — free of charge. Illinois Energy Now estimates that the installation of these products will save the village more than 49,000 kilowatt hours and 760 therms of energy each year, amounting to nearly $4,500 in electricity and $555 in gas savings annually.
