Vintage Baseball Weekend Presentation, Steeple Building Museum 103 North Bishop Hill St., Bishop Hill, 2-3 p.m. The Bishop Hill Heritage Association is presenting a program by Bill Owens on his recent book, “The Scorecard: A Glimpse into Vintage Baseball Through a Bishop Hill Lens.” The book tells the story of a young Bishop Hill man, John Root, Jr., who attended a baseball game in Chicago during the 1873 season While at the game, he kept score on a scorecard and sent it along with a letter to a friend, Andrew Jacobson, who lived in Bishop Hill. The letter and the scorecard were kept for many years and ultimately was included in the Jacobson family’s estate donation to the BHHA in late 2013. Once uncovered, these artifacts of Bishop Hill and early baseball became the central focus of Owen’s book.

 

MAY 21-22

Vintage Baseball Weekend, 103 North Bishop Hill St., Bishop Hill, 10:30 a.m.-8 p.m. on May 21, 1:30-2:30 p.m. on May 22. On Saturday, three vintage baseball teams will be playing games all day, using 1858 rules and equipment. Hammer & Pick will also be performing 19th century music in the park gazebo. The Steeple Building Museum will have a special vintage baseball exhibit, with program. In addition, there will be a murder mystery dinner theater with a baseball theme Saturday night at P L. Johnson’s. On Sunday May 22, the Henry County Museum will have a special baseball display and program. Except for the dinner theater, all other events are free and open to the public. MAY 23

Tour of new Ray LaHood International Terminal, Peoria International Airport, 6100 W. Everett Dirksen McKinley Pkwy., Peoria, 9-11 a.m., 1-4 and 5-7 p.m., free. Tours will be given at three periods during the day. Shuttles will be running from the parking lot.
