Exploring Human Origins, Peoria Public Library 107 NE Monroe Street, Peoria, daily (except Sunday), 9 a.m-6 p.m., Gallery at the Main Library. Through panels, interactive kiosks, hands-on displays and videos, the exhibition invites audiences to explore milestones in the evolutionary journey of becoming human from walking upright, creating technology and eating new foods, to brain enlargement and the development of symbolic language and complex societies advancements that define the unique position of humans in the history of life. Metamora’s Old Settler’s Days, Metamora, Park on the Square, 5:30-10 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday, noon-10 p.m. Friday, 7:30 a.m. Saturday. Carnival rides, craft and food tents, games and free nightly entertainment are featured. Way Down Wanderers with Horseshoes and Hand Grenades, CEFCU Center Stage (Peoria Riverfront) Water Street Peoria, 7:30-11 p.m., Admission $10 for adults. Get blown away by the soulful energy this group creates with their instrumentals and lively stage show. This 5-piece band is a mix of fast-paced sound and soul with a bluegrass feel.
Habitat for Humanity Dine 2 Donate, Granite City Food & Brewery 230 Conference Center Drive East Peoria, 11 a.m. Ten percent of total tab will be donated to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Peoria Area to support the six homes the group plans to build this summer. “Let It Glide!” NASA Engineering Design Challenge, Peoria Riverfront Museum, 222 SW Washington St. Peoria, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., $25. This one-day workshop lets students will take part in NASA’s Engineering Design Challenge and learn about the physics of flight in the process. There will be a snack break in which students are able to eat a sack lunch or purchase food from the concession stand.
