Taste of the Town: Food for Life

Taste of the Town: Food for Life is a new event offering samplings of Elmhurst food and drink. Fifteen businesses will sell food and drink sampling and hold cooking demonstrations by local chefs. The Clay Corso Trio will perform. To purchase tickets online go to www.ucca-elmhurst.org or send payment to United Community Concerns Association, 125 W. Church St., Elmhurst. All proceeds will go to provide food to Elmhurst school children and their families.

A lecture about Wheaton residents who fought in World War I will be given, and there will be a viewing of several of WWI propaganda silent films from 1915-1919.

Lawn furniture, wall decor, wind chimes and art to enhance yards and gardens will be for sale. Purchases made at the Garden Art Sale help support The Morton Arboretum work’s to plant and protect trees.

Architectural Walking Tour

The DuPage County Historical Museum is giving an architectural walking tour to celebrate the City of Wheaton Preservation Week. Participants should wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. Climb aboard the Explore Elmhurst trolley to visit the Elmhurst Art Museum, Elmhurst History Museum, Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art and Wilder Park Conservatory. Each museum will provides family-friendly activities and exhibit tours. Limited free parking will be offered at each location. This class is for youngsters, 5-11 years old. The basics of fishing – how to rig a pole, bait the hook, cast and handle fish – will be taught. All fishing poles, bait and tackle will be provided. Rain or shine. Parents are invited to watch.

Percussion Recital

Andrew Veit will perform contemporary and classical percussion music. At the recital, the audience will hear music played on drums, vibraphone, found objects (such as cans, bottles, and pipes), and even through spoken voice. The performance is free, but a $10 donation is suggested for the Heartland Marimba Festival, a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching lives through music making in Midwestern communities.
