Algonquin resident wounded by firearm

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call from the 9900 block of Captains Drive at 11:20 a.m. in unincorporated Algonquin for a domestic disturbance in which one party was wounded by a firearm.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a domestic dispute occurred among occupants residing in the house prior to the victim suffering the gunshot wound. The victim was transported by helicopter to Condell Medical Center. All parties are cooperating with investigators and early indications are that the injury was self-inflicted, although the investigation is ongoing and still in its early stages.

Aggravated unlawful use of a weapon

Patrol officers from the Woodstock Police Department were dispatched Aug. 23 to the area of N. Seminary Ave. (Route 47) and St. Johns Road, in reference to a disturbance, which was called in by a concerned citizen.

Upon the arrival to the area, officers located three subjects who appeared to be engaged in a verbal argument among each other. The subjects were subsequently identified as Andres L. Hernandez, 20, Juan Esquivel, 19, both from Harvard and a 17-year-old male juvenile from Woodstock. All three subjects appeared to be heavily under the influence of alcohol.

Upon initial contact, all three subjects were detained as none appeared of legal age to consume alcohol. During the course of this investigation, a loaded handgun was located and removed from the pocket of the 17-year-old juvenile.

Hernandez, Esquivel and the juvenile were taken into custody and transported to the Woodstock Police Department. After conferring with the McHenry County States Attorney’s Office, the juvenile was charged with one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon (class 4 felony) and an additional local ordinance charge of purchase and acceptance of an alcoholic beverage by a minor. The juvenile was subsequently transported to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center in St. Charles.

Hernandez and Esquivel were charged with purchase and acceptance of an alcoholic beverage by a minor and given a notice to appear with a mandatory court date of Sept. 25, at the McHenry County Government Center and released from custody.
